Talkback Thursday
January 28th, 2010 | by Chris Hollis |Nothing worse than a slow day in Red Wing Land. While the Wings take the day off to rest, I figure I’ll do something similar today too.
Basically, I’m opening up the blog to you. Whether or not anyone participates in this is a whole different matter, but I’m putting it out there so do with it what you want.
Today’s question for reflection came to me because of all of the current debates that are raging around guys like Todd Bertuzzi and Chris Osgood. Some love them, some hate them, some want them gone and some want them to stay. It’s a house divided for sure. But what if we had the power to send one of them packing? Better yet, what if we had the power to send any one of the Red Wings packing?
So my question to you: If you had the ability to cut only ONE Wings player from the roster, who are you shipping out of town and why?
My answer? That guy up above who can’t score, fight or stay on his skates. Peace out Brad.
The floor is yours. Express yo’self in the comments.

I would ship out Leino. You said ONLY one player there is one more I would like to get rid of I think. Leino just doesn’t seem to have it. Plus, we need the cap room and this would be a great way to free up some money.

Say what you will about Tuzz’ past – it’s checkered for sure – but
he’s been one of very few bright spots on an otherwise dismal offense.
Sure he screws up once in awhile (i.e. takes a bad penalty in the
offensive zone) but overall I’ve grown to love the guy.
Ozzie – jeez Oz, please give me something to be happy about and please
shut the F up to the media… IF we make it the playoffs and Jimmah’s
not bringing it, I hope you have your magic playoff switch ready.
May – super nice guy, but sorry man… peace

I’m torn between Leino and May, but gotta go with May on this one. At least Leino’s scored a few this season.
But May… jeez. Can’t even rally the troops when needed, nor does he do a very good job of “keeping the flies off.” Why did we opt for him over Aaron Downey, again?

Dude, I’m dumping Ville. Easy answer? Maybe. But somewhere, in TSO’s wildest imagination, we believe there may be a market for him. After all, there are teams out there who’ve thrown egregious amounts of money at Detroit’s proven useless components(cough…Kopecky…cough). Also, there are people out there who MUST have bought snake oil at some point in history; otherwise, we wouldn’t have that awesome cliche, right?
But in all seriousness, he could have a believable argument in “Detroit never gave me a chance to prove my mettle as a top player”(we did, but whatever), or “I just didn’t have enough time playing in the right role” (due to injuries, he definitely did), or “I just didn’t have great chemistry with my linemates.” The guy’s proven he has a penchant for b.s. with the way he’s already whined to the press about how he’s not willing to work hard as a 4th liner (I’m taking
liberties with paraphrasing, but you get the point).
Anyway, I think that because Ville’s young and this is his first year playing full-time in the big leagues, he could still sell a gullible, desperate team into making a bid for him. And I wouldn’t care at all, even if he went on to be more successful someplace else. I don’t like the guy’s lack of a work ethic, and I think his attitude sucks. Oh,
and did I mention he doesn’t do anything productive? At this point, another hidden gem in the form of a Patrick Eaves or a Drew Miller
would be an excellent replacement for him; it would solidify our young depth on the 3rd and 4th lines and provide more security in the event of more injuries (knock on wood), plus it would make us more competitive against tougher opponents. At this point, Ville gives us nothing but anguish.

As much as I want to dump May because he’s pretty much been useless, I still think should anyone actually try to mess around with one of the big guns during the regular season and he’s dressed he just might actually do something about it. Maybe. Please?
As for Ville if I’d seen any indication that the Leino that was on display through the playoffs last season was here now it wouldn’t be up for discussion. But since that Leino hasn’t shown up but has sent an impostor in his place, I’m booting the fake out of here as soon as possible and putting out an APB for the Ville Leino we all witnessed last season.
