By the Numbers: Blackhawks 3, Red Wings 0 (12/23)
December 28th, 2009 | by Chris Hollis |The good thing about a vacation is that it gives you a chance to get away from everything. The bad thing about a vacation is that you wind up getting away from EVERYTHING, even the things that you promise yourself you won’t neglect. Such is the case with the Chicago and Columbus recaps, which got put on the back burner for an extra round of golf while I was in Florida.
There’s not much sense in recapping these games since there are plenty of other recaps you can read at the other Wings blogs, so I’ll just provide the numbers for your enjoyment and consumption. Regular recaps resume tonight.
You should also go check out the newest episode of The Obstructed View. This week’s guests are Tyler from The Triple Deke, the voice of reason over at Babcock’s Death Stare, Kyle Kujawa, and Kris from Snipe, Dangle making her second appearance on the show. Plenty of good discussion and laughs as we cover an up-and-down week, health issues, the excellence that is #44 and how Rogaine might help Brian Rafalski.

Didn’t see that coming, did ya?

CSSI
*Season CSSI numbers are updated here.
Goal 1 (PPG) (CHI 1 DET 0): Patrick Kane (12) from Brian Campbell (17) and Troy Brouwer (8) at 0:30, Second Period
- Wings on ice: Helm, Eaves, Lidstrom, Stuart
- DP(-): Helm (-0.5) bites on Kane’s fake, leaving him a lane to shoot. Lidstrom (-1) gets caught out of position in no-man’s land, leaving Brouwer uncovered for an easy screen on Jimmah.
Goal 2 (CHI 2 DET 0): Patrick Sharp (11) from Duncan Keith (24) and Marian Hossa (7) at 3:47, Third Period
- Wings on ice: Abdelkader, Miller, Stuart, Lebda
- DP(-): Miller (-1) gets beat by Keith, which allows the initial shot to get on net and the mad scramble to begin. Abdelkader (-0.5) falls down while covering Sharp, and the puck takes a weird bounce off Miller’s skate, allowing Sharp to roof it over a sprawled Jimmah.
Goal 3 (CHI 3 DET 0): Jonathan Toews (11) from Duncan Keith (25) and Patrick Kane (26) at 18:42, Third Period
- Wings on ice: Datsyuk, Abdelkader, Bertuzzi, Lidstrom, Meech
- DP(-): Meech (-1) has the puck directly on his stick and he winds up misplaying it. His failure to clear allows Toews to slip one between the legs of Jimmah, who should have probably made the save.
Miscellaneous Points
- HP(+): Abdelkader and Maltby both get (+0.5) for their hustle and agitation of the Hawks top players.

I really like that list of numbers seeing as I really can’t be arsed to use numbers myself. So it’s kinda nice to see some numbers and even see your own system of ratings.
Great show yet again by the way. But I stand by what I’ve said: Sometime in the future the show needs a Norwegian who speaks understandable English (at least when sober). [/honest yet shameless ass-licking and self-plugging]
