By the Numbers: Red Wings 3, Predators 2 (OT)
December 13th, 2009 | by Chris Hollis |Postgame Thoughts
Let’s go with the bullets again. I like ‘em.
- Some dude pretending to be Todd Bertuzzi showed up again tonight for the Red Wings, notching a pair of goals, including another OT game winner. I’m not sure who this guy is or where we got him from, but he’s more than welcome to stay in the lineup with production like that.
- How about some love for Drew Miller as well. I’ll tell you what, I really like what he brings to the table. He’s young, he’s working hard, and he’s chipping in some points where he can, including two tonight.
- Good to see Pavel Datsyuk getting back into the mix with a multi-point night as well. Sure, neither point was a goal, but I’m not complaining.
- All good things must come to an end, and that was the case with the Wings’ streak of penalties killed. 27 in a row isĀ nothing to sneeze at, and despite giving one up tonight, they still had another solid effort on the PK.
- However, when one door closes, another opens up. In this case it was Chris Osgood getting his first win since November 5th. Good for Ozzie to hit the road and pick up a much needed win for the Wings. He played well, making some key saves at the right times to keep the Wings in it.
- Two in a row now for the Wings with the super depleted lineup. Given everything that’s happened this week – Cleary injury, scoreless drought – I’m thrilled with a pair of wins, especially one on the road against a Nashville team that has had our number recently.
OK, I’m going to put a bow on the analysis for now and get on with the last part of my weekend. However, I encourage you to pay attention to the @chollis twitter account throughout the day tomorrow, as there is some big news coming down the pike. I’ll be dropping hints throughout the day, so be sure to check in often. In fact, I’ll even give you a teaser hint right now: go read Petrella’s article from the Nashville postgame. And no, I’m not sending you over there to watch him eat crow, since I know how that feels given that I’ve done it once already this year. Just read the post and check the @chollis feed often. I promise, it’s worth it.

Thank you for posting your “By the Numbers” series; I’ve been waiting!
I’ve discovered your blog only recently but I really appreciate the analysis, especially the line-based production. Babcock’s been mixing them up hard and sometimes I lose track.
