CSSI: 11/14/09 vs. Anaheim
Goal 1 (PPG) (DET 1 ANA 0): Daniel Cleary (4) from Niklas Kronwall (7) and Todd Bertuzzi (6) at 13:32, First Period
- Wings on ice: Cleary, Leino, Bertuzzi, Rafalski, Kronwall
- HP(+): Kronwall (+0.5) for getting a huge blast on net. Cleary (+1) for the nice tip and redirection for the goal.
Goal 2 (PPG) (DET 2 ANA 0): Brian Rafalski (2) from Henrik Zetterberg (13) at 19:16, First Period
- Wings on ice: Datsyuk, Holmstrom, Zetterberg, Lidstrom, Rafalski
- HP(+): Zetterberg (+0.5) for the solid forecheck which led to the puck getting to the middle of the ice. Rafalski (+1) for getting off a beautiful one-timer that beat Hiller cleanly.
Goal 3 (DET 2 ANA 1): Corey Perry (13) from Ryan Getzlaf (18) at 8:12, Second Period
- Wings on ice: Helm, Zetterberg, Bertuzzi, Ericsson, Lebda
- DP(-): Ericsson (-1.5) FAIL. The only reason I’m not going with the full two point deduction is that he showed some maturity by not breaking his stick on the goal post and potentially killing Jimmah.
Goal 4 (PPG) (DET 2 ANA 2): Bobby Ryan (8) from Ryan Getzlaf (19) and Corey Perry (10) at 3:47, Third Period
- Wings on ice: Datsyuk, Miller, Lidstrom, Kronwall
- DP(-): Bingo-bango play to get a goal here that is the direct fault of Jimmah not clearing the puck up along the glass with some gusto. No deductions.
Goal 5 (PPG) (DET 3 ANA 2): Pavel Datsyuk (4) from Brian Rafalski (8) and Henrik Zetterberg (14) at 5:17, Third Period
- Wings on ice: Datsyuk, Holmstrom, Zetterberg, Lidstrom, Rafalski
- HP(+): Rafalski (+1) for a gorgeous pass. Datsyuk (+1) for a great redirection past Hiller.
Goal 6 (DET 3 ANA 3): Joffrey Lupul (6) from Ryan Getzlaf (20) and Nick Boynton (3) at 6:26, Third Period
- Wings on ice: Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Bertuzzi, Kronwall, Stuart
- DP(-): Zetterberg (-0.5) for not hustling to pick up Lupul as the pass got to him. Bertuzzi (-1) for not picking up Lupul as he floated through the middle of the ice and for not making a better attempt to block his shot despite standing right in front of him.
Goal 7 (DET 4 ANA 3): Henrik Zetterberg (6) from Dan Cleary (6) and Nicklas Lidstrom (6) at 9:10, Third Period
- Wings on ice: Zetterberg, Cleary, Leino, Stuart, Ericsson
- HP(+): Cleary (+1) for the nifty move to gain the zone and great pass to a streaking Hank. Zetterberg (+1.5) for getting the original one-timer on net, crashing down for a rebound and roofing the loose puck over Hiller.
Goal 8 (PPG) (DET 4 ANA 4): Ryan Getzlaf (2) from Teemu Selanne (2) and Ryan Whitney (8) at 14:27, Third Period
- Wings on ice: Cleary, Kronwall, Stuart
- DP(-): No deductions. The 5-on-3 is tough enough as it is and the Wings played this one by the book to no avail. Howard could have had this one, but it was a rocket from Getzlaf.
Goal 9 (DET 5 ANA 4): Henrik Zetterberg (7) from Daniel Cleary (7) and Jonathan Ericsson (6) at 15:29, Third Period
- Wings on ice: Zetterberg, Cleary, Miller, Kronwall, Ericsson
- HP(+): Ericsson (+0.5) for the nice lead pass. Cleary (+0.5) for setting up Zetterberg with the one-timer. Zetterberg (+1) for scoring despite flubbing on the shot and not getting everything on it. I’m also going to give Miller (+0.5) for jumping into the play right out of the box, recognizing the situation and avoiding an offside that could have cost the Wings a goal. It’s a small thing, but it’s important to that goal being scored and I think he deserves it.
Goal 10 (DET 6 ANA 4): Darren Helm (2) from Patrick Eaves (4) at 17:45, Third Period
- Wings on ice: Helm, Draper, Eaves, Lidstrom, Rafalski
- HP(+): Eaves (+0.5) for the nice chip pass along the boards. Helm (+1) for getting enough on a top shelf shot to hit Hiller and still make it into the net.
Goal 11 (EN) (DET 7 ANA 4): Henrik Zetterberg (8) from Niklas Kronwall (8) at 19:59, Third Period
- Wings on ice: Zetterberg, Cleary, Eaves, Kronwall, Stuart
HP(+): Standard “EN” scoring rules apply here, so Kronwall (+0.5) and Zetterberg (+0.5), but…
Miscellaneous Points:

- HP(+): Zetterberg breaks in the inaugural “hat trick” scoring rules, which gives you an extra (+1) for the trick and another (+1) for the CURLY FRIES! And yes, I was able to convince the Arby’s worker to give me free curly fries on Sunday. In Seattle. Get some.
- HP(+) cont.: Right, also deserving of some credit are Leino (+0.5) for continuing to play a great game, but not quite getting on the score sheet and Stuart (+1) for putting together another excellent outing, capped by his saving of Howard in the second period when Jimmah was out of position.
- DP(-): Despite an assist, Eaves (-0.5) didn’t have his strongest game. His line has been providing a huge boost to the team recently, and I was disappointed to see his game fall off a bit.
