CSSI: 11/5/09 vs. San Jose
November 8th, 2009 | by Chris Hollis |Before I get into the actual scoring breakdown, I wanted to give everyone a heads-up about the CSSI moving forward. While I was busy moving last week I decided to cut down on the written analysis in the CSSI, in favor of a more “bulleted”, streamlined approached. I had intended this only as a temporary measure in order to expedite the catching up process, but after some further thinking, I’ve decided to go with that format moving forward. It’s beneficial to both sides in that A) It cuts the time to create the CSSI posts in half and B) Allows me to write more opinion based articles instead of inundating you with just numbers and facts. I really don’t think we’ll lose anything in terms of the content of the CSSI. All it really does is shift the onus to you, the reader, to watch the game or click on the link for each video to understand what is going on.
Now that we have that cleared up, here’s the CSSI from the win over the Sharks.
Season CSSI numbers are updated here.

CSSI: 11/5/09 vs. San Jose
Goal 1 (SJ 1 DET 0): Logan Couture (1) from Joe Callahan (1) and Joe Thornton (17) at 14:41, Second Period
- Wings on ice: Helm, Draper, Eaves, Ericsson, Lebda
- DP(-): Eaves (-0.5) for a weak attempt at checking Thornton, which eventually led to the breakout. Ericsson (-1) for falling down during the Sharks’ rush, forcing Lebda to come over and help, which then left Couture open on the far side. FTR, Osgood should have had this one.
Goal 2 (DET 1 SJ 1): Henrik Zetterberg (4) from Nicklas Lidstrom (3) and Patrick Eaves (2) at 5:38, Third Period
- Wings on ice: Zetterberg, Helm, Eaves, Lidstrom, Rafalski
- HP(+): Helm (+1) for doing some solid stick work to keep control of the puck and get it to Eaves after failing to get a shot off in the slot. Eaves (+1) for showing patience behind the net and passing to an open Lidstrom instead of trying to jam home the puck. Lidstrom (+0.5) for getting a blast through (and actually on net!). Zetterberg (+1) for staying with the play and not stopping until the whistle, eventually scoring even though the puck was under Nabakov’s pad.
Shootout points: Datsyuk (+1.5) for a filthy move to score. Zetterberg (+2) for an even filthier move to seal the game.
Miscellaneous Points: Leino (+1) for stepping up and playing a much better game after laying an egg in his first outing after being benched. He had a handful of scoring chances, but just couldn’t get them home.
