Welcome! Please wipe your feet.
August 26th, 2009 | by Chris Hollis |Welcome to Motown Wings!
Motown Wings is designed to embody the spirit of the entire Detroit Red Wings franchise. From the players and management all the way down through the fans and beat writers, there is no organization in the world like the one that resides in Hockeytown.
For many of you, my story is all too familiar. I grew up in Michigan as a fan of the Winged Wheel and spent many winters watching the local broadcasts or heading to the Joe to see my heroes in person. I cheered in ‘97 when the Wings brawled with the Avs on their way to the first Cup in 42 years. I shed a tear with the city when The Captain handed the Cup to Konstantinov in ‘98. Four years later, I partied with the masses as Hasek and company hoisted the grail again.
Unfortunately, the ’02 campaign would be my last in the state of Michigan. I suffered through the lockout and subsequent playoff losses moving between Georgia and Florida. Heartbreaking. But ‘08 was a time for change for me, just as it was for the Wings. Seattle would be where I watched the sweet sight of Lidstrom hoisting the Cup in ‘08, and where I would commiserate with friends after Game 7 in ‘09.
But, just like many of you, my love for the Wings never wavered.
With those experiences fresh in my mind, my goal with MW is to create a comprehensive community where everyone can come and share their feelings, experiences, thoughts, ideas, hopes and fears about Motown’s finest. I encourage all of you to share your feedback about the site, and to suggest anything that you think would make it better. Want a contest? Let me know. More analysis? Happy to. Want to meet up and drink a beer somewhere? Don’t hold back. Obviously, this is a work in progress, so your patience during the growing pains is much appreciated. My promise to you is that I will work each and every day to make this site even better, but I’m counting on you to help steer this ship.
As with any community, I’m sure we won’t always see eye-to-eye, but that’s a good thing. The passion of the Wings fan base makes it the greatest in the world, so please don’t hold back. I’m hoping to provide something for everyone on this site, so check back often for a bevy of content. If you like what you see, feel free to grab the RSS feed and tell your friends too.
All that said, PLEASE feel free to contact me about anything you want to talk about, see on the site, never see again, or just plain don’t understand. I’m reachable via Twitter, Facebook and e-mail (sleeplessinmichigan@gmail.com), so hit me up. I’ll do my very best to get back to you.
Thanks again for stopping by. Here’s to a bright, shiny (preferably silver and oversized cup shaped) future.
Best,
Chris Hollis
